    French Muslims join opposition to same-sex marriage

    PARIS — French Muslims have begun joining a mostly Catholic-led movement against same-sex marriage, widening opposition to the reform that the Socialist-led government is set to write into the law by June.

    Fifty Muslim activists issued an open letter on Monday urging fellow Muslims to join a major Paris protest against the law on Sunday. That followed a similar appeal last Saturday by the influential Union of French Islamic Organizations, or UOIF. [Read Full Story]

    Like 88% of his fellow 240 million countrymen, Shabura is Muslim. And today is Friday, the traditional day of rest and prayer for Muslims.     Three Muslim men jailed over Gay Hate Leaflet

    Three men have been jailed after becoming the first to be convicted of stirring up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation for handing out leaflets calling for gay people to be executed.

    Ihjaz Ali, Kabir Ahmed and Rizwan Javed gave out the pamphlet, entitled The Death Penalty?, that showed an image of a mannequin hanging from a noose and quoted Islamic texts that said capital punishment was the only way to rid society of homosexuality.

    Ali was jailed for two years and Ahmed and Javed for 15 months each. [Read Full Story]
