    French Muslims join opposition to same-sex marriage

    PARIS — French Muslims have begun joining a mostly Catholic-led movement against same-sex marriage, widening opposition to the reform that the Socialist-led government is set to write into the law by June.

    Fifty Muslim activists issued an open letter on Monday urging fellow Muslims to join a major Paris protest against the law on Sunday. That followed a similar appeal last Saturday by the influential Union of French Islamic Organizations, or UOIF. [Read Full Story]

    Parliament Bars Church of England From Hosting Gay Weddings

    CANTERBURY, England - The British government unveiled a proposal on Tuesday (Dec. 11) that excludes the Church of England and the Church in Wales from planned legislation to allow same-sex couples to marry in churches.

    Culture Secretary Maria Miller told Parliament the new plan would allow gay and lesbian couples to marry in some churches, synagogues, temples and mosques, but definitely not in the established church, where both the outgoing and incoming archbishops of Canterbury insist that marriage remain between a man and a woman.     Gay Christians hope for church acceptance

    Like four in ten same-sex couples, James Nevein, 49, and David Witte, 50, identify themselves as Christians.

    They are part of a statistic that strikes at the heart of the debate around same-sex marriage, and one that many hope will validate them in the eyes of the church.

    At the 2011 census, Christianity was the number one religion among gay and lesbian couples - with 40 per cent of couples practising the faith compared to 60 per cent of opposite-sex couples. [Read Full Story]

    Pastor supporter of gay marriage out in the cold

    Matt Glover, the Lilydale Baptist pastor who supports gay marriage, has been sacked at a secret church meeting to which he was not invited.

    The Lilydale church office yesterday confirmed that Mr Glover was no longer senior pastor, but said the congregation had been instructed to remain silent.

    The Age reported last week that the church was in turmoil over Mr Glover's support for same-sex marriage on a gay website two months ago. [Read Full Story]

    Nigerian gay pastor dares Senate, recruits more members

    The Senate during the week passed the anti Same-Sex Marriage Bill prohibiting all marriages between man and man and between woman and woman.
